2026 RANZCP Board Election
Elected Director Election Outcome
We are pleased to announce the outcome of the recent Elected Director election.
The 2026–2027 RANZCP Board will comprise:
- Dr Astha Tomar, President
- Dr Angelo Virgona, President Elect
- Prof Megan Galbally, Director
- Prof Dan Lubman AM, Director
- Dr Michelle Atchison, Director
- Dr Mark Lawrence, Director
- Prof Shuichi Suetani, Director
The appointment process for the next Trainee Director is underway. We will share an update with members as soon as the outcome is confirmed.
The ballot to elect the five Elected Directors to the RANZCP Board closed on 31 March 2026. Professor Megan Galbally, Professor Dan Lubman AM and Professor Shuichi Suetani were elected, and Dr Mark Lawrence and Dr Michelle Atchison were re-elected. We congratulate the successful candidates and thank all the candidates for their participation in the election.
Elected Director election ballot
The ballot was conducted in accordance with the Board Election Regulations and has been audited, signed off and approved by CorpVote (the independent election company) and relevant College committees.
Prescribed count method
This election uses a multiple preferential count method. In summary:
- The primary votes for each candidate are counted and the candidate having the fewest number of primary votes is excluded from the count and their preferences are distributed among the continuing candidates.
- When the distribution of the excluded candidates’ secondary votes has been completed and new progressive totals obtained for each remaining candidate, the candidate then having the fewest number of votes is next excluded and their next available preferences distributed.
- This process of exclusion is continued until only five candidates remains in the count.

Director terms
Elected Directors will serve a term of two years, commencing at the conclusion of the RANZCP’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday 6 May 2026, and concluding at the 2028 AGM.
In accordance with the RANZCP’s Constitution, the Director terms will be ratified at the RANZCP AGM on 6 May 2026.
