How to apply
Applications to the RANZCP Fellowship Training Program are managed by Branch Training Committees located in each Australian state and territory, and New Zealand.
Information for each location is provided below. You may apply to more than one program if you wish.
- Your local program will provide an application form and information on closing dates.
- After your application is received, you will proceed through the trainee selection process.
Before you apply, ensure that you meet current entry requirements
If you are an international psychiatrist and have completed the highest psychiatry qualification available in your home country, you can apply to the College for specialist assessment, or investigate other pathways to practicing in Australia and New Zealand.

Northern Territory
The Northern Territory (NT) offers accredited psychiatry training across two sites: Darwin (Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals) and Alice Springs (Alice Springs Hospital). Training provides exposure to Aboriginal and Transcultural Psychiatry, Remote and Rural Psychiatry, and work in remote communities.
Training rotations include diverse experiences such as Acute Adult Inpatient, Adult Community Mental Health, Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Remote Outreach, Child and Youth Community, Child and Youth Inpatient experience, Addiction Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, Emergency Psychiatry including Crisis Assessment Mental Health Teams, Perinatal Psychiatry, and GP Liaison Psychiatry.
The NT supports all stages of training (Stage 1–3) and Advanced Certificates in Adult, Child and Adolescent, Addiction, and Forensic Psychiatry.
Informal discussions with Directors of Training and local psychiatrists are encouraged. Interviews are conducted for both accredited positions and the NT training program.
Applications (cover letter and CV) must be submitted when positions are advertised.
Rotations commence in February and August. Intake outside these periods may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Applications for Northern Territory training positions are advertised via the NT Government jobs portal. Please monitor and express your interest when roles open below:
Vacant roles are advertised independently by services in the Top End and Central Australia.

Victoria
Visit First Year Psychiatry Training Match - PMCV for more information.
To be registered to commence training in Victoria, you need to be selected by the VPTC selection committee of the RANZCP and matched to an accredited training position at a Victorian Health Service.
Applicants need to apply to each Health Service they wish to train at:
- Services advertise first year registrar positions generally from May each year.
- Apply to the Victorian Psychiatry Training Committee (VPTC) via the Post Graduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV).
The PMCV matches the preferences of the applicants with the preferences of the Health Services, based on their interviews.
Candidates who are selected and matched to a training position are required to accept this within a 48-hour period.
Any selected applicants who have not secured a training position are informed of any vacant training positions and negotiate with those services to secure a position.
