About Certificates of Advanced Training
Certificates of Advanced Training allow you to specialise in an area of psychiatry. Across all certificate programs you will complete a mix of supervised training, formal education via a course or self-directed learning, and workplace-based assessments.
You can focus on:
- Addiction psychiatry
- Adult psychiatry
- Child and adolescent psychiatry
- Consultation-liaison psychiatry
- Forensic psychiatry
- Psychiatry of old age
There is also the option to complete a dual certificate.
You are required to complete 24 months of full-time equivalent training to complete an Advanced Certificate.
There are some situations where you can have prior learning taken into account, which can reduce the amount of time it takes to complete a certificate. You can also complete certificates part-time.
There are typically several application intakes each year.
Closing dates and the selection process are managed by your local branch training program.
You will need to pay:
- RANZCP annual training fees
- fees to the provider of formal education courses may be required.
Please note the Certificate programs offered by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists are vocational training for graduate medical practitioners and are not higher education awards in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework.
