Becoming an accredited supervisor
To become a RANZCP accredited supervisor, you must have appropriate qualifications and complete supervisor training.
Principal supervisor eligibility
To become a principal supervisor, you must be:
- a Fellow of the RANZCP
- registered as a specialist psychiatrist in Australia or registered with a vocational scope of psychiatry in New Zealand
or
- a SIMG on the Substantially Comparable Pathway to Fellowship.
Non-principal supervisor eligibility
You can become a non-principal supervisor in specific areas of practice such as psychotherapy, addiction, or research if you have appropriate qualifications and current health practitioner registration.
Recently retired health practitioners with expertise in a specific aspect of psychiatry may also apply and be approved for accreditation in some circumstances.
How to apply
- Apply for accreditation with your local Branch Training Committee or New Zealand Training Committee.
- Attend RANZCP-approved supervisor training.
RANZCP supervisor training
Supervisor training is run by local RANZCP Branch Training Committees and the New Zealand Training Committee.
Contact your local branch training program to learn about upcoming supervisor accreditation training.
Stage 3 trainees
You must be a Fellow to be a supervisor, however you can complete the supervisor training and accreditation process while you are still in Stage 3. You need to have completed at least 12 months FTE in Stage 3 to qualify.
Maintaining your supervisor status
To stay accredited as a supervisor, you need to:
- attend supervisor peer review sessions three times a year
- meet CPD requirements
- have your performance reviewed by the BTC / NZTC after your first year of supervision and every five years thereafter
- attend supervisor refresher training every 5 years
- apply for re-accreditation every 5 years.
All supervisors must adhere to the RANZCP Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct, Privacy policy and all other Fellowship Program regulations, policies and procedures.
Expired accreditation
Your supervisor accreditation expiry date is located on your InTrain supervisor record.
If your accreditation has expired, you need to attend supervisor training through your local branch training program and apply for re-accreditation.
