Recognition of prior learning

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is where skills, learning and experience acquired outside the College are evaluated for credit toward RANZCP training components.

RPL may be granted for:

• RANZCP Fellowship Program 
• Certificates of Advanced Training
• Overseas training completed while on an approved break in RANZCP Fellowship training.

Applications for RPL must be submitted within 6 months of enrolment.

RPL for the RANZCP Fellowship Program

In order to be eligible for RPL, any training, assessment (other than Scholarly Project) and/or work experience must have been completed within the previous 8 years. 

An RPL application for a Scholarly Project must be based on a project completed or accepted for publication within the past 10 years.

RPL applications must be submitted no more than 6 months after you commence Fellowship training.

RPL for Certificates of Advanced Training

An RPL application for a Certificate of Advanced Training must:

• demonstrate the completed training activities achieved all relevant competencies
• be endorsed with a Subcommittee of Advance Training (SAT) recommendation. 

RPL may be granted for a maximum of 12 months FTE of Certificate training time. Particular EPAs or other elements of the Certificate of Advanced Training are considered on a case-by-case basis. 

Overseas training while on an approved break

Trainees seeking to gain RPL for overseas training whilst on a break in training must:

1. Receive approval for a break in training application.
2. Apply for in-principle approval of the overseas training before commencing (i.e. prospective approval).
3. Apply for RPL on returning to the Fellowship Program.
