Stage 2 consultation-liaison rotation alternate rural pathway
Stage 2 trainees can complete mandatory consultation-liaison rotations in a rural post, with an off-site supervisor.
The accredited training post must:
- be located in an area defined as 3 - 7 according to the Modified Monash Model (use this interactive map to find your location's MMM code)
- offer consultation experience
- have a liaison component
- offer exposure to a variety of patient types and presentations.
Supervision
Your principal supervisor can be located off-site, and your meetings and reviews can be done by video or telephone call.
Your supervisor's role will be the same as for face-to-face supervision, with some additional training and support for both you and your supervisor to make sure that the supervision experience is safe and effective.
A supplementary supervisor may be appointed, who can work on-site or remotely, and who can fulfill the principal supervisor responsibilities if required.
Eligibility
Currently, this rural pathway is open only to Australian trainees in Stage 2.
Your training history will be reviewed, and you may be asked to complete an interview to determine your suitability.
You must be approved by your Branch Training Committee to take up this opportunity.
Providing evidence to meet Stage 2 C-L training requirements
As your C-L experience may not match up to the 6-month rotation requirement, you are required to document the C-L experiences you have while in your rural post.
Consultation component
Provide at least 60 unique experience summaries (50-100 words) where another health professional has consulted you on the psychiatric care of patients with a range of specific disorders/diagnoses in CLP as listed in the syllabus (5 or more to demonstrate breadth of experience). Of these, the de-identified written formulations for 6-8 patients must be provided.
You will be expected to use the Observed Clinical Activity (OCA) Guidelines to prepare formulations.
Liaison component
Provide at least 20 unique experience summaries (50-100 words) where you have participated in a multidisciplinary team or while working as a team member (outside of a traditional inpatient or community mental health multidisciplinary team). The summary should cover where you have discussed and planned care for patients with a range of specific disorders/diagnoses in CLP as listed in the syllabus. Of these experiences, 5 patient experiences must be selected for further reflection.
WBAs
Particular WBAs are required as evidence for EPA entrustment:
