Certificate scholarships
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists has received Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (the Department) funding to offer scholarships for a limited number of individuals undertaking the Certificate.
The objective of the scholarship program is to reduce financial barriers for medical professionals who wish to undertake the Certificate, provide more opportunities for upskilling and confidence building, and ultimately improve patient care.
Value
The scholarships provide $10,000 towards the first 24 months of enrolment in the Certificate.
If you are awarded a scholarship, you are required to pay the remaining $2,500 balance of the total program fee prior to starting the program.
Certificate fees and refund information
Dates
Scholarships will be available from the September 2026 intake through to the March 2029 intake of the Certificate.
Eligibility
Anyone who is eligible to apply for the Certificate is eligible to apply for a scholarship, if they can meet and commit to the requirements outlined in the Certificate scholarship guidelines.
A minimum of 50% of the available scholarships will be allocated to those living and working in an MM2-7 area.
Participants enrolled in the Certificate program prior to the September 2026 intake are not eligible for a retrospective scholarship.
How to apply
When you apply for the Certificate using the online application process, you will be asked if you wish to apply for a scholarship.
Scholarship application requirements
In addition to the evidence required for your Certificate application, to qualify for a scholarship you must also provide evidence of:
- a current Police check
- a current and valid Working with Children Check.
If you are unable to supply evidence of the required checks, your application will not be considered, and you will need to reapply for the next intake. These items are mandated under the Department Grant Agreement.
Taxation disclaimer and record keeping
Receipt of the Scholarship may constitute taxable income to you. The taxation treatment of the Scholarship, including whether any amount is assessable income, deductible, reportable or otherwise relevant for taxation purposes will depend on your individual circumstances.
You are solely responsible for obtaining any independent taxation, financial or legal advice you consider necessary, and for managing any reporting, payment or other taxation obligations arising from, or connected with, receipt of the Scholarship.
The RANZCP does not provide taxation, financial or legal advice. Any information provided by the RANZCP in connection with the Scholarship is general in nature only and must not be relied upon as advice about your personal taxation, financial or legal circumstances.
You must retain accurate financial records (including invoices and receipts) relating to the Scholarship for at least five (5) years and comply with Australian Taxation Office requirements, and any reasonable audit, verification, or compliance requirement by the RANZCP.
Withdrawal, deferment or failure to meet requirements
The Scholarship is provisional upon you completing the Certificate. If you withdraw, defer, or fail to meet the requirements of the Certificate, or the RANZCP reasonably determines that you have failed to comply with the Letter of Agreement, the RANZCP may request payment of part or all of the full Scholarship amount of $10,000.
