2026 PhD Scholarships

The RANZCP Foundation is pleased to offer four PhD scholarships that support emerging researchers and strengthen the future of psychiatric research.

You only need to submit one application to be considered for all four scholarships.

The Barnett PhD Scholarship is designed to encourage and support PhD research in psychiatry by RANZCP members.

You may be at any stage of your PhD, and your research does not need to focus on a specific sub-specialty or area within psychiatry.

This scholarship is supported by the generosity of Dr Bryanne Barnett AM.

Two scholarships will be offered in 2026. Each is valued up to A$60,000 per year.

To apply, you must be:

a current RANZCP Fellow, Affiliate, or trainee
enrolled, or provide evidence of future enrolment as a PhD candidate in psychiatric research at an Australian or Aotearoa New Zealand tertiary institution.

Applications open July 1 and close August 31 2026.

The Scholarship funds can be used for stipend support, research expenses, or a combination of both.

You only need to complete one application form to be considered for all available PhD scholarship opportunities.

You will need the following documents to complete your application:

Curriculum vitae
Proof of ethics approval, or evidence that an ethics application is pending
At least two letters of support from different referees, supervisors or research group leaders
