New resource for rural trainees and SIMGs preparing for the MEQ and MCQ exams

Pathways to Success: Preparing for the RANZCP written examinations in a rural location [member login required] is a new LearnIt module designed for trainees and SIMGs in a rural location who are preparing for the written examinations. It provides clear, practical guidance drawn from rurally located subject matter experts who understand the realities of fitting study into everyday life.

The module is structured around four insights that aim to validate trainee experience, clarify expectations, and sharpen preparation for written exams:

1.    Rural experience is exam experience

Trainees in a rural location experience independence, broad scope and systems awareness which can enhance written exams answers.

2.    Examiners want consultant-level thinking

Many trainees revise extensively but lose marks for predictable reasons. Before investing more study time, it’s important to understand what examiners are assessing.

3.    Support is available, but you need to reach out for it

Trainees studying solo in a rural service are not preparing alone. From past papers and webinars to jurisdiction-based study groups, from supervisors to Rural Directors of Training, there are people and resources in your corner.

4.    Practice beats procrastination

Perfect study conditions do not equal strong preparation. What matters most is how learners use their time and the tools they have available.

Trainees in rural and remote locations succeed every year, often in challenging circumstances. Get the support you need and start preparing today.
