RANZCP Rural Training Support Program established

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists is pleased to announce the establishment of the Rural Training Support Program. The program will launch in 2027 and be responsible for the delivery of the remainder of the Rural Psychiatry Roadmap 2021–31 and the integration of rural priorities across the College.

An independent review of the implementation of the Rural Psychiatry Roadmap 2021 – 2031 in May 2026 recommended that in order to ensure the early gains made by the Rural Psychiatry Training Pathways team are sustained and scaled, continued investment, stronger system alignment and a focus on embedding success in business-as-usual practice would be required.

The RANZCP Board approved the establishment of the new program at its September 2026 meeting, affirming the College’s commitment to prioritising rural training and practice in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

The Rural Training Support Program will enable the College to build on the progress made through the Rural Psychiatry Roadmap, strengthen the focus on rural training and practice, and embed rural priorities across the College.
