CPD opportunity: Become a Modified Essay Questions marker

The College is recruiting eligible Fellows to become markers for the Modified Essay Questions (MEQ) examinations. Markers play a vital role in ensuring a reliable and fair assessment process, and this work is performed on a pro bono basis.

CPD hours are available for calibration preparation, attendance and marking.

The MEQ assesses capacity for critical thinking about clinical practice and application of clinical knowledge. It is set at the standard expected at the end of Stage 3. This exam is a summative assessment and is a requirement of the RANZCP Fellowship Program. 

From September 2026, the examination (and marking) will be computer-based.

Marker responsibilities include:

  • Marking MEQ exams in March and September each year during a 4-week marking period
  • Attending calibration meeting for each exam
  • Providing feedback as part of a post examination report

Eligibility criteria for markers:

  • RANZCP Fellow (with a minimum of one-year post-Fellowship) 
  • Commitment to professional development of psychiatry (e.g., supervision, training, or examination activities) 
  • Familiarity with RANZCP training and assessment regulations and curriculum framework 
  • Good standing with the RANZCP
