Members Requisition General Meeting
A General Meeting was called to consider four resolutions which relate to the RANZCP Mood Disorders Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) and in particular, long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy in the treatment of mood disorders.
Update, 21 April 2023
The College remains committed to producing quality resources to assist members in treating and supporting their patients. The process undertaken to publish the Clinical Practice Guideline in the treatment of mood disorders involved members with significant expertise and was subject to international peer review.
At its March meeting, the Board considered the minutes of the Member Requisition General Meeting (MRGM). Thematic responses to the questions submitted to the MRGM are also available.
The Board has established the Mood Disorders Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Evidence Review Steering Group (the Steering Group), Chaired by Professor Bruce Singh, to commission a review on the evidence for long term psychodynamic psychotherapy in the treatment of mood disorders. A Request for Quote for tender applications for an independent consultancy to review the evidence for long term psychodynamic psychotherapy was circulated with a deadline of 11 April 2023 and the submissions are currently being reviewed.
Regular updates on the work of the Steering Group have been provided to members via Presidents Update and Psyche and any questions can be directed to policy@ranzcp.org.
The Board supports the scope of the Steering Group and looks forward to receiving their recommendations with respect to proceeding to address the resolutions and providing updates to the members.
Meeting outcome
The General Meeting was attended by 384 members, including 333 eligible voting Fellows. Given the interest and volume of questions, a condensed presentation was delivered to provide background and further information. Over 100 questions were received and a number of them were responded to during the meeting.
The outcomes of the four Ordinary Resolutions, as outlined in the Notice of Meeting, are outlined below and all four resolutions were carried. More than 50% of votes must be cast in favour of the resolution for it to be carried.
