The College developed its position statement on The mental health impacts of climate change to establish a clear, consensus position on the mental health impacts of natural disasters and climate-change related weather events.
Following its publication, Position Statement 35: Addressing the mental health impacts of disasters and crises has been reviewed and updated.
The updated statement removes the specific focus on climate change-related natural disasters and instead, adopts a broader scope, addressing the mental health impacts of disasters and crises more generally.
It also includes greater details on the role of the psychiatrist and the impacts of disasters and crises on clinicians and psychiatric practice.
