The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists congratulates New South Wales Branch Chair Dr Pramudie Gunaratne on receiving the Australian Medical Association's 2025 Women in Medical Leadership Award.
This recognition by the AMA is well-deserved acknowledgment of Dr Gunaratne's vision, leadership and tireless advocacy towards reforming NSW’s mental health system.
As the NSW Branch Chair at RANZCP, Dr Gunaratne has been a strong voice for both people living with mental health conditions and the mental health workforce, urging governments and policy makers to address psychiatry workforce shortages that are affecting patient safety and quality of care in the state’s public mental health system.
Her work has brought much-needed media and public attention to the challenges faced by NSW members and their patients.
The College extends its warmest congratulations to Dr Gunaratne on this achievement and looks forward to her continued leadership in mental health advocacy as NSW Branch Chair.
