Mood disorders: Anna Freud Centre report update
21 Nov 2025
Update
The College commissioned the Anna Freud Centre (AFC) to conduct a review of the evidence for long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy in the treatment of mood disorders.
The AFC have confirmed that their patient interview study and qualitative meta-aggregation papers have been accepted for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Their meta-analysis and therapist/carer manuscripts remain under review.
The College’s Faculty of Psychotherapy Committee is now working to update Position Statement 54: Psychotherapy conducted by psychiatrists using evidence outlined in the AFC report.
The report remains accessible to all College members on the Mood Disorders hub and we look forward to releasing it publicly following acceptance of the AFC’s manuscripts.
