Lisa Miller

Congratulations to Dr Lisa Miller, the 2026 WA Branch Meritorious Service Award winner

The RANZCP WA Branch was delighted to recognise Clinical Associate Professor Dr Lisa Miller with the 2026 Meritorious Service Award at its Annual Dinner in Fremantle on 24 October.

Over many years, Dr Miller has earned enormous respect not only for her clinical expertise and tireless advocacy, but also for her kindness, approachability and generosity towards colleagues.

Dr Miller is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia and a Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and the WA Eating Disorders Outreach and Consultation Service (WAEDOCS).

In addition to her RANZCP Fellowship, Dr Miller is a Fellow of the Chapter of Palliative Medicine of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, a former Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and holds a Master's in Affective Neuroscience from Maastricht University.

This breadth of experience has shaped her longstanding commitment to improving healthcare at the intersection of physical and mental illness.

Her leadership in consultation-liaison psychiatry, psycho-oncology and eating disorders has helped drive substantial improvements in services across Western Australia. Particularly significant has been her advocacy for statewide eating disorder reform, contributing to a $31.6 million WA Government election commitment in 2021 to establish a new model of care for young people and adults.

In 2018, she received the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Eating Disorders Distinguished Achievement Award for her contributions to education, training and the establishment of WAEDOCS. The following year, WAEDOCS received the Mental Health Commissioner's Award at the WA Health Excellence Awards. In 2024, the WA Eating Disorders State-wide Services model was also recognised with a national Value-Based Health Care Transformation Award.

She remains a passionate advocate for education and training, regularly teaching psychiatry, palliative medicine and gastroenterology trainees, medical students and healthcare professionals throughout Western Australia.

In accepting her award, Dr Miller reflected on the challenges that accompany meaningful system reform, and the resilience and determination required to see change through.

She spoke with gratitude about the supervisors, mentors, colleagues and friends who have supported her throughout her career, acknowledging the role these relationships have played in sustaining her resolve.

The Meritorious Service Award recognises Dr Miller’s outstanding contribution to psychiatry and mental healthcare in Western Australia, and celebrates the dedication, generosity and collegial spirit she continues to bring to our profession.
