Influencing governments
The RANZCP plays a critical role in informing government decisions ahead of budgets and elections.
Election periods provide an important opportunity to elevate mental health in the public policy debate. Working with our stakeholders, RANZCP engages across the political spectrum to encourage bipartisan commitment to long-term reform, continuity of care and sustainable workforce planning.
These periods shape national and local priorities, funding decisions and reform agendas that directly affect access to mental health care, workforce sustainability and system performance.

RANZCP provides governments and political parties with practical, evidence-based advice on what is needed to strengthen mental health systems.

Our advocacy focusses on solutions that are clinically sound, fiscally responsible and deliverable – from workforce investment and service reform to improving equity of access for rural, regional and other priority populations.

In the lead-up to budgets, our committees, members and policy teams work with ministers, shadow ministers, political advisors, government departments and other stakeholders to ensure mental health remains a core policy and funding priority.
