Profile

Dr Yasaman Meshkat
Doctor (PGY-2) at Queensland Health
Attending the RANZCP Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry 2023 conference as a junior doctor who has a keen interest in psychiatry, particularly child and adolescent psychiatry was an excellent teaching and networking opportunity.
Networking with so many prominent and well-respected colleagues in the field was phenomenal. The conference did nothing but confirm my interest and goal to be a part of a profession with such empathetic and patient-centred clinicians.
Working in Queensland, I particularly found the presentations by Professor James Scott, Dr Chris Wever, and Dr Alice Ayres to be very inspiring and relevant to my practice. Prof James Scott’s discussion on “The Prevalence and Health Outcomes of Child Maltreatment in Australia: The Australian Child Maltreatment Study” was a particularly eye-opening study and one that I have already cited and spoken about to multiple colleagues.
I am grateful to the Psychiatry Interest Forum (PIF) for the opportunity to attend such an event and participate in three days' worth of fantastic speakers and presentations, soak up the gorgeous weather in Noosa and eat some delicious food at the conference. I would highly recommend to any junior doctor who is thinking about psychiatry to try to attend a conference of their interest to get a better understanding of the current research that is occurring and what changes they would like to make in the future as a clinician, a scientist and/or a policy maker.
