Professor Patrick McGorry AO

Pat McGorry is a globally recognised Australian psychiatrist and mental health advocate known for pioneering early intervention and youth mental health services. He is Professor of Youth Mental Health at The University of Melbourne and helped establish Headspace, Australia’s national youth mental health foundation in 2005.
Professor McGorry has played a major role in mental health reform in Australia and internationally, including chairing the expert advisory committee for Victoria’s Royal Commission into Mental Health. He has authored more than 1,000 publications with over 51,000 citations and has held leadership roles in several international mental health organisations.
His contributions have been widely recognised through awards including Australian of the Year (2010), Officer of the Order of Australia, the Lieber Prize for Schizophrenia Research, and multiple international lifetime achievement and humanitarian awards. In 2016, he became the first psychiatrist elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science.
