A leading authority on delirium, Dr Oldham is the Immediate Past President of the American Delirium Society and a member of the workgroup that developed the recent American Psychiatric Association Clinical Practice Guidelines on delirium. His research aims to understand how sleep-wake disturbances inform delirium and its outcomes, with the goal of identifying novel therapeutics. Dr. Oldham is also recognized for his work on catatonia, having co-authored the British Association for Psychopharmacology’s evidence-based guidelines and the American Psychiatric Association’s resource document on catatonia. He has also collaborated with Dr. Francis, senior author of the Bush-Francis Catatonia Rating Scale, to develop one of the field’s leading educational resources for assessing catatonia.

Dr Oldham is an advocate for excellence in mental health care, especially for medically ill older adults. In line with the conference theme of “Breaking barriers, building integration,” he hopes to inspire attendees to serve as change agents, fostering collaboration in their care settings and advancing the delivery of mental health care for older adults.
