The 2024 Medical Training Survey results
12 Dec 2024
Update
The 2024 Medical Training Survey (MTS) results were released last week. Administered by Ahpra each year, the MTS is a national, profession-wide survey of all doctors in training in Australia. More than half (nearly 25,000 trainees) of Australia’s doctors in training completed the survey. 40.9% (949) of RANZCP trainees and SIMGs in Australia responded to the survey and I thank them for their participation.
This year’s results indicate some good news in areas such as quality of trainee supervision, orientation, teaching, education and training on patient safety. However, reports of racism doubled for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors in training, and 33% of trainees reported having experienced and/or witnessed bullying, discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment and/or racism.
The 2024 static reports are now available, and the MTS data dashboard will go live in late January 2025. The RANZCP results will be analysed further, and recommendations developed in consultation with key committees.
