NSW workforce crisis
The President, on behalf of the RANZCP, remains in a constructive dialogue with NSW Health. The President recognises the need for constructive engagement with NSW Health through the Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) rapid review process; the limitations of which have been clearly articulated during the review process. The review is limited by its short timeframe and lack of broad stakeholder engagement to identify the challenges being faced and contextual solutions.
The RANZCP understands that that there will be a broader, more holistic review of mental health services in NSW and the ACI review will be captured as a part of this broader redesign. Psychiatrists have much to offer by way of clinical leadership and planning, and the engagement of psychiatrists involved in the mental health care of NSW residents is essential to the good planning of a future NSW mental health system fit for all its population. The RANZCP looks forward to supporting NSW as they engage in a future-focused review of the mental health system.
