I am writing to confirm the outcome of the recent ballot for the RANZCP Elected Director election and to share the confirmed Board membership for 2026–2027.

The 2026–2027 RANZCP Board will comprise:

• Dr Astha Tomar, President
• Dr Angelo Virgona, President-Elect
• Prof Megan Galbally, Elected Director
• Prof Dan Lubman AM, Elected Director
• Dr Michelle Atchison, Elected Director
• Dr Mark Lawrence, Elected Director
• Prof Shuichi Suetani, Elected Director

The appointment process for the next Trainee Director is underway. We will share an update with members as soon as the outcome is confirmed.

Congratulations to Prof Galbally, Prof Lubman, and Prof Suetani on their election to the Board, and to Dr Lawrence and Dr Atchison for their re-election to the Board. I also thank all candidates for nominating and participating in the election. 

The ballot was conducted in accordance with the Board Election Regulations and has been audited, signed off and approved by CorpVote (the independent election company) and relevant College committees. The ballot outcome will be ratified at the College’s AGM.

This election uses a multiple preferential count method. In summary:

• The primary votes for each candidate are counted and the candidate having the fewest number of primary votes is excluded from the count and their preferences are distributed among the continuing candidates.
• When the distribution of the excluded candidates’ secondary votes has been completed and new progressive totals obtained for each remaining candidate, the candidate then having the fewest number of votes is next excluded and their next available preferences distributed.
• This process of exclusion is continued until only five candidates remains in the count.

The allocation of preferences for the 2026 election is available for members to view.
