Conjoint Professor Jackie Curtis AM
Dr Jackie Curtis AM is the Executive Director of the Mindgardens Neuroscience Network and Clinical Lead of Youth Mental Health, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. Jackie is Conjoint Professor with the Discipline of Psychiatry and Mental Health, UNSW, Sydney.
She has a long-standing interest in the physical health of people living with psychosis and her clinical research has had strong research translation implications, influencing clinical practice, health service delivery, policy and guidelines in mental health services locally, nationally and internationally. She co-founded the international group concerned with physical health in young people experiencing psychosis (iphYs) in 2010 which she co-chairs.
Dr Curtis is regularly invited to speak nationally and internationally on youth mental health, and physical health co-morbidities and was invited to be part of the WHO guideline development group for physical health in people experiencing severe mental illness.

Professor Philip Ward
Professor Phil Ward is a professor in the Discipline of Psychiatry and Mental Health, UNSW Sydney. He is also the Director of the Schizophrenia Research Unit, based at Liverpool Hospital, a part of South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD).
Professor Ward provided expert research and evaluation oversight for the Keeping the Body in Mind Program, Southeastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD), to improve physical health outcomes in people living with severe mental illness (SMI) and was a strong advocate for the development of a physical health service in the SWSLHD mental health service, which commenced in 2021.
Professor Ward is a clinical neuroscientist, with an extensive record in the application of cutting-edge brain imaging and neuropsychological methods to understanding the cognitive and sensory deficits observed in people with schizophrenia, depression and first episode psychosis.
Over the last twelve years he has also developed a strong portfolio of translational research, focused on identifying the cardiometabolic health impacts of antipsychotic medications in people with severe mental illness, and the development and implementation of effective treatments to ameliorate them.
Professor Ward chaired symposia on this topic at the RANZCP annual meeting (Perth, WA, May 2014), and the Society for Mental Health Research Annual Meeting (Noosa, November 2018).
Professor Ward has published over 250 Scopus-indexed scientific publications and has a Scopus Author h-index of 67. His work has received over 17,000 citations, and he has been awarded grants totalling more than $12.5million.
He was selected as highly cited researcher by Clarivate Analytics for the past five years (2019-2023), demonstrated by the production of multiple highly cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in the Web of Science™.
