The ECT Training Program is designed as a structured educational activity covering theoretical, practical and hands-on components.

The curriculum includes the history and evolution of electroconvulsive therapy, stigma, mechanisms of action, indications and contraindications, pre- treatment assessment, consent and legislation, ECT prescribing, electrode placement, stimulus dosing, EEG interpretation, adverse effects, patient monitoring, anaesthetic considerations, governance, and clinical responsibilities.

The program also incorporates practical skill development in areas such as electroconvulsive therapy machine use, skin preparation, electrode placement, baseline EEG recording, dose/charge setting and interpretation of seizure adequacy.
