About

The Faculty of Forensic Psychiatry (FFP) is a body of experts that promote the highest standards in professional practice, training and research pertaining to forensic psychiatry. Forensic psychiatry is the subspecialty of psychiatry that interfaces with the law.

Aims

The Faculty aims to:

  • promote the objectives of the College relating to forensic psychiatry
  • advise on training in forensic psychiatry through the subcommittee of advanced training
  • advance and disseminate research in forensic psychiatry
  • contribute to and promote the highest standards of professional practice.

Bi-national Faculty Committee

The Chair of the Bi-national Faculty of Forensic Psychiatry Committee is Dr Vinesh Gupta.

The Bi-national Faculty Committee's Regulations outline the purpose and responsibilities of the Bi-national Faculty Committee.

Faculty Subcommittees

A Faculty Subcommittee is established on the approval of the Bi-national Faculty Committee to engage with Faculty members at the jurisdictional level, and, in consultation with the respective Bi-national Faculty Committee, carry out the responsibilities of the Bi-national Committee within its respective jurisdiction.

Membership

All members of the College (including trainees and Affiliates) are eligible to join the Faculty.

The Regulations outline the role and responsibilities of Faculty membership.

Fellows and Affiliates of the College may apply for Accredited Membership of the Faculty if they have completed the relevant Certificate of Advanced Training or have significant experience in forensic psychiatry. The Faculty's Accredited Membership Policy [PDF; 48 KB] outlines the pathways to become an Accredited Member.

Awards

In order to encourage achievements and excellence in forensic psychiatry, the Faculty supports the following awards:

Training

The Certificate of Advanced Training in Forensic Psychiatry is the premier training program in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand in forensic psychiatry.

Policy

The Faculty contributes regularly to RANZCP position statements and is involved in consultations on behalf of the College.

Events

The Faculty hosts an annual scientific conference.
