Tupua is of Ngāti Kahungunu and Croatian whakapapa. He is a father of two beautiful tamariki, Antonia and Hawaiki. Tupua has 12 years of lived experience in the state care and protection system, a system that has broken generations of his whānau. For over a decade, he has been advocating for systems change and young people's rights. While some progress has been made, Tupua believes there is still much mahi to be done. He values every opportunity to work collaboratively toward a better system for future generations. Tupua hopes to contribute to the creation of a system that delivers care—one that is human, recognizes the struggles whānau face in society, and provides the necessary support to eliminate the need for state intervention where possible.
