Update
Manatū Hauora announced the publication of updated guidelines for the use of seclusion and restraint when treating people under the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992. The changes focus on the prevention, reduction and elimination of seclusion and restraint by emphasising approaches that are human rights and person-centred.
The new guidelines support the shift in practice envisaged by the Report of the Government’s Inquiry into Mental Health and Addiction, He Ara Oranga and comes into effect on 1 July 2023.
