Upcoming changes to RANZCP accreditation standards
23 Jan 2026
Update
The RANZCP is progressing a significant update to its accreditation standards for Fellowship Training Programs and Training Posts. These changes are required to align with the Australian Medical Council’s (AMC) new model accreditation standards and procedures. Accreditation processes will be standardised across all specialist medical colleges, providing greater clarity and consistency for health services.
The updated standards will impact a wide range of stakeholders across the College, including accreditation panel members, committees overseeing program and post accreditation, Directors of Training, and many others including the many health services involved in the Psychiatry Fellowship Training Program.
What’s changing?
- Accreditation Standards for Training Programs and Posts.
- All relevant documents, including policies, procedures, reporting templates and associated forms are being revised.
- Accreditation decisions will follow a new accreditation risk framework.
Next steps
- Information webinars will be scheduled to support implementation and will commence in March 2026.
- Go-live for the new accreditation standards for training programs will be mid-2026, with training posts to follow by end-2026.
Further updates will be shared as this work progresses. For questions, please contact the Accreditation Team at accreditation@ranzcp.org.
