Supporting members through retirement: New resources and initiatives
22 Jul 2025
Update
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting members at every stage of their professional journey, the RANZCP has launched a range of new resources and initiatives to assist psychiatrists in planning for and transitioning into retirement.
The Retiring from practice webpage provides guidance on the steps involved in formally retiring from psychiatric practice. This includes notifying the College, managing medical registration, changes to College fees and CPD obligations, and clarifying the activities you can continue or cease once retired.
The Retiring well webpage offers practical advice and resources to support wellbeing, maintain connection with the College, and embrace the opportunities that retirement brings.
The College has also introduced Retirement Conversations – a new stream within the RANZCP Mentoring Program connecting members seeking guidance on retirement planning, transitioning to retirement, and adapting to a new phase of life. This stream is open to all members, including retired Fellows, and offers two ways to participate:
Seeking guidance? Submit a Retirement Conversations - Mentee application.
Want to support a colleague? Submit a Retirement Conversations - Mentor application.
Building on this work, the College Board has recently approved ten recommendations aimed at enhancing support for our late-career and retired members.
We extend our thanks to the dedicated members of the RANZCP Transition to Retirement Working Group who contributed to the development of these initiatives, and to the many members who contributed their insights through the College’s member survey on retirement.
