Event information

The WA Faculty of Psychotherapy Movie Matinee will take place on 22 June 2025. It is a free event, open to all WA Members (Fellows and Trainees). The event aims to raise awareness and interest in psychotherapy training and meeting like-minded clinicians, engaging in some dynamically informed reflection on the artistic content.

Gaslight is a 1944 American psychological thriller film directed by George Cukor, and starring Charles Boyer, Ingrid Bergman. Adapted by John Van Druten from Patrick Hamilton's play Gas Light (1938), it follows a young woman whose husband slowly manipulates her into believing that she is descending into insanity.

Discussion after the movie will be facilitated by Dr Jan Resnick. Dr Resnick is a senior psychotherapist, supervisor, and author. He has a PhD in Psychology (Psychoanalysis). As founder and Director of Training, he ran a Nationally Recognized and Accredited Registered Training Organisation called The Churchill Clinic for 18 years, conferring post-graduate qualifications.

He was the Founding President of the Psychotherapists & Counsellors Association of WA (Inc) in 1993 where he later received an Outstanding Achievement Award after serving 10 years on the Management Committee. And he was a founder of the Psychotherapists & Counsellors Federation of Australia.

He was an Editorial Advisory Board Member of the national journal Psychotherapy in Australia for 20 years and currently, an Advisory Board member of Blue Knot Foundation (formerly ASCA - Adult Survivors of Child Abuse) in Sydney. He is accredited by RANZCP to supervise psychiatry registrars in psychotherapy. He has presented at 3 RANZCP conferences for the Psychotherapy Section in the past. He also supervises the Developmental Paediatricians at the State Child Development Centre. He has over 100 publications including two books.

His latest book is called Meaning-Fullness, Developmental Psychotherapy, and the Pursuit of Mental Health, published by Phoenix Publishing House (Oxford) earlier this year.
