On behalf of the Organising Committee, we are pleased to invite you to attend the RANZCP 2024 Congress, being held at Australia’s capital, Canberra, at the National Convention Centre Canberra from Sunday 19 May 2024 to Thursday 23 May 2024.
This Congress represents the 60th anniversary of the first RANZCP Congress in Canberra, in 1964.
The name Canberra is thought to be derived from the word for “meeting-place” from the local Ngunnawal language and is apt for the first meeting held by the College in the Australian capital in 20 years, and the 60th anniversary of our first Congress. We hope that the Congress is a convivial meeting of the fellowship of the College, as well as a meeting of minds striving to provide excellence in mental healthcare for the Australian and New Zealand communities.
As the world continues to recover from the pandemic, our Congress embodies the themes of Excellence and Empathy, Knowledge and Kindness. We aim to curate a scientific program that showcases the excellence of psychiatric research, and how, as psychiatrists we engage with empathy, knowledge and kindness with those receiving mental healthcare and the community. Our program represents all the diversity of our profession and the high-quality research that underpins our practice, ranging from basic clinical sciences, psychiatric epidemiology, pharmacological and psychotherapies, through to new digital technologies and understandings from related sciences such as anthropology, psychology and sociology.
We especially welcome newcomers to the Congress, medical students and doctors-in-training, as well as early, middle and experienced career psychiatrists working across public and private sectors.
Canberra is known as the “bush capital”, renowned for beautiful urban design integrated into the natural environment, with a range of attractions that encompass history, culture and unique experiences such as the National Museum of Australia, the National Art Gallery, National Aboretum, Australian National Botanic Gardens, Parliament House, as well as surrounding attractions such as eateries and wineries.
We bid you a warm welcome to Canberra and look forward to hosting you for a refreshing and enlightening Congress.
