2025 marks 5 years since Dr Ray Cash passed away, yet his influence is still deeply ingrained in psychiatry in Queensland.

Dr Cash was well known to many Queensland psychiatrists, having worked across multiple health services in Brisbane, Hervey Bay, Maryborough, and Lismore, as well as in private practice during his career. Calm, considered, and with an inexhaustible repertoire of anecdotes and wise reflections, Ray was always ready to support a colleague or clinic in need.

Ray was passionate about many areas of psychiatry, but particularly about the importance of teaching. He oversaw the college Formal Education Course for trainees for many years, and was a keen supervisor and mentor. There are few psychiatrists trained in Queensland who didn't have the benefit of learning from him, formally and informally, in his lifetime.

On this night we will reflect on what Ray taught us, how this has impacted our practice and teaching, and most importantly, what helpful lessons we can pass on to future generations of psychiatrists.
