Post-market Review of PBS medicines in Australia
20 Feb 2024
Update
The Australian Department of Health and Aged Care has recently announced that the updated system for Post-market Reviews (PMR) of Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) Subsidised Medicines Framework was now in operation.
PMRs are a systematic approach to monitoring medicines following PBS listing, to inform decision making relating to ongoing access and subsidy. PMRs provide evidence and options to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee to ensure patient safety, quality of medicines, and the ongoing cost-effective use of PBS-listed medicines.
The College made a submission to the PMR Framework in November 2022 in which we broadly supported proposed changes that were designed to make the review process more efficient and transparent. These changes have now been implemented as part of the PMR Framework.
