Dr Priyanka Handa

Third year psychiatry registrar

I am currently a third-year psychiatry registrar based in Auckland, New Zealand, undertaking my Adult Liaison rotation. My primary interests within psychiatry are Old Age Psychiatry and Liaison Psychiatry, specialties that allow for meaningful integration of medical and psychiatric care across complex systems.

I was drawn to a career in psychiatry as I believe compassion is central to this field. Throughout my training and personal experiences, I have witnessed the transformative impact that compassion can have in building trust and fostering connection, particularly in unfamiliar or vulnerable environments.

I have previously served as the local representative for the Aotearoa Psychiatry Trainee Committee, where I valued contributing to trainee advocacy and strengthening collegial engagement within our profession.

Outside of work, I am a foodie with a love for discovering new dining experiences, and I enjoy op shopping. I also volunteer with the Auckland Shapers Hub, where we collaborate on innovative, community-focused projects aimed at creating meaningful local impact. Shapers Hub in which we innovate and create local projects to help the community.

Dr Chris Edwards

Senior Registrar Representative

I am the Senior Registrar Representative in Ōtautahi Christchurch. I worked as registrar in Hawkes Bay, completing my stages 1 and 2 there. At the beginning of Stage 3, I moved down to Christchurch to continue my training. I have experience training in both regional and metropolitan New Zealand training schemes.

I am completing the Child and Adolescent advanced training certificate. I felt that this age group was a great way to have a positive influence on a person’s trajectory and sees patients as part of a family. I have training in EMDR and get to use this in practice.
