Event information

Professor Stone is internationally recognised as a leading clinician and researcher in Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). He will be presenting: Functional Neurological Disorder: Past, Present and Future.

Professor Stone's bio:

Professor Jon Stone is a neurologist and leading expert in Functional Neurological Symptoms Disorder (FND) at the University of Edinburgh.

'Functional' symptoms comprise a significant proportion of patient presentations across most specialties. They are very common in neurology.

Since 1999, he and his colleague Alan Carson have promoted a transparent, pragmatic, and multidisciplinary approach to functional neurological symptoms, transforming a previously neglected and stigmatised area.

He has published over 350 articles on FND, including large cohort, mechanistic, and treatment studies, and has contributed to new international diagnostic standards and the ICD-11 classification for FND.

In 2009, he launched the NeuroSymptoms FND guide www.neurosymptoms.org ,the first patient-focused resource for FND, now available as a website and app and widely used worldwide.

He is currently President-Elect of the international FND society www.fndsociety.org, which has over 1200 members.

Professor Stone's contributions have been recognised with awards including the President's Medal from the Royal College of Psychiatry and the Ted Burns Humanism in Neurology Award from the American Brain Foundation.
