Mental health NZ election candidates forum

Tū Te Akaaka Roa, the New Zealand National Office is hosting a Mental Health Election Candidates Forum, bringing together representatives from the major political parties to discuss their priorities for mental health and addictions care in Aotearoa New Zealand.  

This is an opportunity to hear directly from candidates about their plans for strengthening our mental health system, addressing workforce shortages, improving access to care, reducing inequities, and ensuring people can get the support they need, when and where they need it. This is an important opportunity to keep mental health and addictions firmly on the election agenda and demonstrate that psychiatrists are an engaged and influential voice in shaping the future of mental health care in Aotearoa. 

When you register, you'll have the opportunity to submit a question or nominate a priority area that you would like raised at the forum. Whether it relates to workforce, access to care, Māori mental health, child and adolescent services, rural communities, addiction services, funding or other pressing issues, we want to hear what matters most to you.

The moderator will review all submissions and select a range of questions to ensure a balanced discussion across the key challenges facing mental health care in Aotearoa New Zealand. Please note that while every question will be considered, we may not be able to ask every question at the event.
