About

The RANZCP Section of Social, Cultural and Rehabilitation Psychiatry promotes the highest standards in clinical practice, training and research pertaining to social, cultural and rehabilitation psychiatry.

Social, cultural and rehabilitation psychiatry examines the diverse social and cultural factors impacting recovery from mental illness. It emphasises quality of life, respect for individuals’ values and beliefs, and re-integration into family and community circles. It promotes consideration of these factors in the development of treatment plans for people with complex mental health needs.

Aims

The Section aims to:

  • promote the objectives of the College in consideration of social, cultural and rehabilitation aspects of psychiatry
  • advise on social, cultural and rehabilitation considerations in psychiatric training
  • advance and disseminate research on social, cultural and rehabilitation considerations in psychiatry
  • contribute to and promote the highest standards of clinical practice.

Bi-national Section Committee

The Chair of the Bi-national Section Committee is Dr Darryl Watson.

Membership

All members of the College (including trainees and Affiliates) are eligible to join the Section.
