  • Indicative Total Remuneration: $313,002 - $580,096 - Perm F/T - MD2
Utilising your clinical experience, knowledge and skills in psychiatry, you will assume a clinical leadership role within the mental health service and contribute to the provision of safe, best practice based, cost effective consumer focused clinical services. You will be required to provide clinical services of the highest possible standard to Mental Health consumers, both in terms of individual performance and by clinical leadership and contribution to a multidisciplinary approach to the delivery of patient care. Ensuring services are delivered in line with the Professional Standards of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, you will have an active involvement in teaching and providing guidance to Trainee Medical Officers, Interns and medical students and, where appropriate, nursing and allied health staff. Participating in clinical audit and quality, safety and clinical risk management activities, you will contribute to relevant research and continuous medical education activities.

Holding a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, you will have appropriate specialist qualifications and be registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration. You will also be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. With extensive clinical experience relevant to work in a Mental Health Service, you will display a high degree of professional integrity, leadership and motivational skills. Your excellent interpersonal and communication abilities will equip you to interact effectively with a diverse range of multidisciplinary mental health professionals.

These are two newly created Relieving Consultant Psychiatrist positions within CALHN.

The purpose is to enable ongoing patient care during a period of absence from duty of the usual treating Consultant Psychiatrist. This will be due to approved leave. The role therefore will be covering the various units across the CALHN Mental Health Service with one position allocated for the Eastern sector (including the Royal Adelaide Hospital) and one for the Western sector (including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital). In the context of these two sectors, the roles will therefore involve covering a potential range of services, one at a time, including an acute ward, a psychiatric intensive care unit, the Consultation-Liaison service, the Emergency department, the Queenstown Intermediate Care Centre, psychogeriatric inpatient unit and the Community Mental Health service. This will therefore be a position that is able to be flexible and when there arises a situation where no leave requires coverage, the psychiatrist will be stationed within the joint Consultation Liaison – Emergency Department function.

The South Australian public sector promotes diversity and flexible ways of working including part-time. Applicants are encouraged to discuss the flexible working arrangements for this role. Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check.  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants are encouraged to apply.
