The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists congratulates Dr Skye Kinder who has been named the 2019 Young Victorian of the Year.
Skye was recognised, in a ceremony earlier this week, for her work in advocating for junior doctor welfare, particularly in rural and remote Australia.
The RANZCP President Associate Professor John Allan praised Dr Kinder on her achievement.
‘I congratulate Skye on the incredible work she has done for rural and regional health in Victoria, and look forward to following her journey in psychiatry.’
Skye hopes that this award will allow her to bring ongoing attention to important health issues, particularly those that affect patients living rural, regional and remote areas.
‘I don’t believe that your postcode should determine how healthy you are, but that is currently an unfortunate reality for many rural Australians,’ said Skye.
‘Psychiatry gives me the opportunity to not only work directly with individual patients, but also to examine the systems and processes that affect health within the hospital and wider community.’
Skye hopes to continue her work as an advocate for junior doctor welfare, as well as provide much needed specialist mental health services in Central Victoria.
