The Trainee support resources series developed by the College to complement the Formal Education Courses and support Trainees in learning about key topics is expanding.
A new course has arrived: Introduction to Psychological Therapies: EMDR, IPT and DBT now available in Learnit [member-login required].
This course will focus on three key psychological therapies:
- Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)
- Interpersonal therapy (IPT)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
In this course you will learn about:
- the theoretical models underpinning each of these therapies.
- the disorders for which each therapy is best suited.
- the procedures involved in each of the therapies — a brief introduction.
Traditionally, psychotherapies were taught as either short or long-term therapies. There was an emphasis on the development of insight and a strong focus on the dynamics occurring within the therapeutic relationship. In more recent times, psychological therapies have been developed which are more structured and manualised.
The College would like to acknowledge and thank A/Prof Suzanne Luty, Dr Thomas Flewett, Phillipa Bradley, and Dr Lukas Cheney for their expertise in developing this course.
Courses from the series are eligible for CPD hours upon completion. Don’t forget the first and second courses:
Introduction to psychological development
Introduction to the Theory of Psychiatric Ethics
Future modules of the series will cover a broad range of topics: Effective teaching and learning, Emerging physical therapies, Neurosciences, Genetics, Psychopharmacology, Critical appraisal, and Phenomenology.
