The College congratulates Professor Helen Milroy on being named the WA Australian of the Year 2021, at a ceremony last night in Perth.
As Australia’s first Indigenous doctor, Professor Milroy has also played an important role in a number of key mental health advisory committees and boards and was appointed the first Indigenous Commissioner to the Australian Football League in 2018.
RANZCP President, Associate Professor John Allan, congratulated Professor Milroy on the announcement.
‘On behalf of the College, congratulations to Professor Milroy for this prestigious honour and recognition of her hard work and dedication to the field of mental health and psychiatry.
‘Having dedicated than 25 years to research, education, and training in Aboriginal mental health, as well as child and adolescent psychiatry, Professor Milroy is a credit to the College, her profession and the wider mental health and medical community.
‘The College is delighted to see the hard work and dedication of individual Fellows recognised and celebrated in this way.’
