The My Health Record Act (the Act) will be redrafted to strengthen privacy protections and ‘ensure no record can be released to police or government agencies, for any purpose, without a court order’.
The announcement of a change to the Act was made by Health Minister Greg Hunt on 31 July after meeting with the Australian Medical Association (AMA) and The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).
It is hoped that the adjustment will address public concerns over the privacy of the My Health Record (MHR) system.
The Act will also be amended to allow Australians to permanently delete their records from the MHR system.
