The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) is conducting an election for the position of President-Elect on the RANZCP Board.
Voting for the President-Elect position will now open on Monday 11 February 2019 and close at 5.00 pm AEDT on Thursday 21 March 2019.
Upon receiving a number of communications and enquiries regarding the election process for the position of President-Elect, the College has determined to extend the election period by two (2) weeks.
It was brought to the College’s attention that election candidates were provided with advice regarding permitted campaigning methods that may have been ambiguous in its interpretation. As such it was determined to provide all candidates with an added opportunity to campaign to the membership.
As the College Committee responsible for the oversight of our elections, the Corporate Governance and Risk Committee (CGRC) met on Thursday 31 January to discuss these matters.
The CGRC considered a number of factors when deciding to recommend an extension in the election period, these included:
- any perceived disadvantage to candidates’ election campaigns;
- the needs and wants of the Fellowship;
- a fair and reasonable outcome is reached within the spirit of collegiality;
- procedural fairness is maintained; and
- the obligations that the College’s elections are conducted in a manner befitting a professional organisation.
Voting for the election will now open on Monday 11 February 2019, (rather than Monday 4 February 2019) and will now close on Thursday 21 March 2019 (rather than 7 March 2019).
The College holds its obligation to conduct elections in a manner befitting a professional organisation with the upmost importance and will continue to work with President-Elect candidates to ensure a spirit of collegiality and procedural fairness for all.
Update: voting for the President-Elect election is now open and closes at 5 pm AEDT on Thursday 21 March 2019.
