Applications for the position of Editor, the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry are now open.

The College invites applications from suitably qualified members for the position of Editor, the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry (ANZJP).

The ANZJP’s current Editor, Professor Gin Malhi, concludes his time in the role in May 2021. Under Professor Malhi’s leadership the ANZJP has grown and developed significantly, and its international standing has increased markedly. The College is deeply appreciative of his substantial contributions since 2011.

About the opportunity

The position of Editor, ANZJP is an important role within the College, and the Editor has significant responsibility and independence to oversee the publication of the ANZJP.

The Editor, ANZJP is an honorary appointment and is accountable to the College’s Board. The initial term of appointment is five years, and reappointment for a second five-year term is possible.

Working closely with the journal’s publisher, the Editor has final, overall responsibility for each issue of the ANZJP. The Editor is assisted by an editorial board, and appropriate editorial office support is also provided.

About the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry

The ANZJP is an official journal of the RANZCP and was first published in 1967. It is published monthly, and each issue has a total circulation of approximately 16,000.

Enjoying a strong international standing, the ANZJP is the leading psychiatry journal of the Asia-Pacific region and is highly regarded within the academic community. With an Impact Factor of 4.657 (2019), the ANZJP is currently ranked 26/155 of international journals in psychiatry (by Impact Factor). In 2019, the ANZJP had over 625,000 full-text downloads of published articles.

How to apply

Applicants are expected to meet the Key Selection Criteria, as outlined in the Position Description. 

Applications must include:

  • a covering letter or other written statement that specifically addresses each of the Key Selection Criteria, and addresses the applicant’s skill-set and suitability for the role
  • a detailed CV
  • a conflict of interest declaration [PDF, 108 KB]
  • details of three professional referees (Fellows of the RANZCP) who can comment on the applicant’s suitability for the position, and who may be contacted later on as part of the selection process.
