The RANZCP’s new President,
Associate Professor John Allan, officially took up his role at the conclusion of the annual general meeting held during the RANZCP 2019 Congress last week in Cairns.
Associate Professor Allan gained his RANZCP Fellowship in 1987 after completing his medical training in Queensland and his psychiatry training in South Australia. Since then he has also completed a PhD at the University of Queensland.
Associate Professor Allan is the Executive Director of Mental Health Alcohol and other Drugs Branch in Queensland Health, and has previously been a Chief Psychiatrist in both Queensland and New South Wales.
With twenty years working in North Queensland, he is responsible for the development of a wide range of new mental health services and is highly experienced in government policy, mental health legislation and service development.
Associate Professor Allan initially joined the RANZCP Board in May 2015 as a Casual Board Director for a 12-month term and was elected to the RANZCP Board for a two-year term in 2016.
Associate Professor Allan was the President-Elect from May 2017 – May 2019, during which time he chaired the Members Advisory Council and Audit Committee.
The College is also pleased to welcome Dr Vinay Lakra to the position of President-Elect and Dr Elizabeth Moore as newly elected Director to fill the casual Board vacancy.
