RANZCP Foundation research update

26 March 2020

The RANZCP Foundation enables the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) to raise funds and manage an annual grants, scholarships and awards program that provides RANZCP members the opportunity to apply for financial support to undertake world-class psychiatric research and projects.

Here’s a snapshot of one of the researchers we supported.

Dr Stephen Parker

What happens to consumers after residential rehabilitation care: Listening to their stories and thoughts about what helps and hinders recovery

Dr Parker reports that:

‘The grant received from the RANZCP Foundation has helped our team interview consumers about the impact of residential rehabilitation care on their lives. While the analysis is not yet finalised, we have already learned a lot that has challenged our pre-conceptions about what people want from rehabilitation services.

‘Many consumers report having progressed significantly towards their goals, but also that they continue to face considerable challenges in the community. Understanding consumers’ perspectives is critical to adapting mental health services to better support then in the future. We anticipate that this research will guide adaption of services locally and a national level.’
