Second module on trainee support resources now available in Learnit

07 June 2019

The Trainee support resources series developed by the College to complement the Formal Education Courses and support Trainees in learning about key topics is expanding.

A new module has arrived: Introduction to the Theory and Practice of Psychiatric Ethics (PE) now available in Learnit [member-login required].

This module is designed to introduce trainees to the theory and practice of psychiatric ethics.

In this module you will learn about:

  • recognising the various salient concepts in moral philosophy which constitute a basis for ethical reasoning and their association with clinical practice
  • identifying the many ethical problems in clinical psychiatry and analyse them in a systematic way
  • demonstrating the ability to reach balanced ethical judgments through critical appraisal of competing theories or frameworks
  • differentiating between clinical and ethical issues in the context of complex professional situations
  • identifying coping strategies in the face of anxiety regarding difficult-to-resolve ethical dilemmas in clinical psychiatry
  • assessing the value and limitations of the Code of Ethics, clinical guidelines and College Position Statements.

The College would like to acknowledge and thank Emeritus Professor Sidney Bloch for his expertise in developing this module.

Modules from the series are eligible for CPD hour upon completion. Don’t forget the first module: Introduction to psychological development

Future modules of the series will cover a broad range of topics: Psychological therapies, Effective teaching and learning, Emerging physical therapies, Neurosciences, Genetics, Psychopharmacology, Critical appraisal, and Phenomenology.
