RANZCP President launches Competency Standards Framework for Clinicians

28 February 2019
The RANZCP President and Chair of the Migrant and Refugee Women’s Health Partnership, Dr Kym Jenkins, has launched a new Competency Standards Framework for Clinicians at the RANZCP Head Office.
Entitled ‘Culturally responsive clinical practice: Working with people from migrant and refugee backgrounds’, the ground-breaking work provides much needed resources to support clinicians to embed culturally appropriate practice in clinical education and health care.
The Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP, Minister for Indigenous Health and Minister for Senior Australians and Aged Care, appeared by video link to congratulate the partnership and commend the new resources for implementation.
The Migrant and Refugee Women’s Health Partnership brings together health professionals and the community to address systemic barriers to access associated with cultural and linguistic diversity.
It also seeks to strengthen health-promoting assets in communities to have a direct positive impact on family and community health and wellbeing.
The development of the Framework was overseen by a Working Group with a diverse membership of health and medical professionals which drew on specialist expertise with regard to working with people with refugee-like experiences and settlement.
