Following the creation of the $125 million Million Minds Mental Health Research Mission
, the Hon Greg Hunt MP, Minister for Health, has established an Advisory Panel to help identify research priorities and inform the design of the Mission’s research grant programs.
A number of College Fellows, including Associate Professor Dan Siskind, Chair of the College’s Committee for Research, are amongst the 15 newly appointed members of the panel, which includes eminent researchers and persons with lived experience of mental illness.
The Mission will support research into the causes of mental illness and the best interventions to prevent and treat mental illness.
The Advisory Panel will identify proposals in line with the Mission’s initial priorities of eating disorders; child and youth mental health; and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health.
With over 10 years funding allocated through the Medical Research Future Fund, the Mission aims to ensure all Australians have access to the best possible mental health care.
It also aims to support more than 3.8 million Australians aged between 16 and 85 who experience a mental illness each year.
